Spam & Egg Musubi
Classic Spam musubi form with cauliflower “rice” base, tamago-style egg layer, and nori wrap.
2 servings.
Ingredients
- Sushi Rice
Filling & Sauce • 2 slices Spam, cut lengthwise (½-inch thick) • 1 Tbsp tamari or soy sauce • 2 tsp sesame oil • 1 optional egg layer (1 egg scrambled or fried into a ¼-inch rectangle)
Assembly • 2 sheets nori, halved • Neutral oil, for frying Spam
🍳 Step 3: Prepare fillings 1. Fry Spam slices in a lightly oiled skillet until browned and crisp on the edges. 2. Mix tamari and sesame oil, then brush both sides of the Spam while still hot. 3. For the optional egg layer, fry one egg in a rectangular shape about the same size as the Spam slice.
🧱 Step 4: Form the musubi 1. Place a half-sheet of nori shiny-side down on your work surface. 2. Set your musubi mold (or cleaned Spam can with bottom removed) over it. 3. Add half the cauliflower mixture; press firmly to compact. 4. Layer Spam (and egg, if using). 5. Add remaining cauliflower and press again until dense and cohesive. 6. Lift mold, then wrap nori tightly around, sealing the edge with a dab of water. 7. Chill 15–30 min before slicing — this final refrigeration locks everything together.
