Stuffed Meatloaf

Notes

Concept recipe. Intended as a template rather than a single fixed preparation.

Philosophy

  • Treat as a meatloaf, not a burger without a bun.
  • Preserve the flavor identity of dishes (cheeseburger, Italian sausage, etc.) without preserving the original form.
  • Use ingredients already on hand whenever possible.
  • Emphasize reusable techniques and pantry ingredients.

Base Concept

  • Ground meat forms an outer shell.
  • A filling is enclosed inside the meat.
  • Slice and serve as an entrée.
  • Beef is the default, but sausage, pork, turkey, chicken, or mixed meats may be used.

Example Fillings

Cheeseburger

  • Cheddar
  • Pickles
  • Caramelized onions
  • Roasted garlic
  • Bacon

Italian

  • Mozzarella
  • Spinach
  • Roasted garlic

Mushroom Swiss

  • Mushrooms
  • Swiss cheese
  • Caramelized onions

Sausage Variations

  • Any of the sausage-roll filling combinations may be adapted to stuffed meatloaf.

Pantry-Friendly Ingredients

Especially suitable for: - Caramelized onions - Roasted garlic - Roasted pepper puree - Leftover cheeses - Cooked vegetables

Future Experiments

  • Determine optimal meat thickness around filling.
  • Compare beef versus sausage versions.
  • Test individual portions versus full loaf.
  • Evaluate whether cheese should be fully enclosed or partially exposed.
  • Consider links to Cheeseburger Casserole as a related recipe using similar flavor principles.
